MovingBox 2026.1.0: Video Analysis, Multiple Homes & Household Collaboration
The biggest MovingBox update yet: scan an entire room from a video, manage inventory across multiple properties, and invite a family member to document alongside you.

Today I’m shipping the biggest MovingBox update since launch. Two features I’ve wanted to build since day one (and one that completely changes how fast you can build a home inventory).
Scan a Room by Recording a Video
The original MovingBox workflow: open the camera, photograph one item, wait for AI, review, save, repeat.
It works. People love it. But it’s still item-by-item, which means a living room with 20 things takes 20 scans.
2026.1.0 changes that. Record a short walkthrough video of any room (or import one you already have) and MovingBox analyzes every frame, identifies every item it sees, and presents them for your review. You pick what to keep, skip what you don’t, and your inventory is done.
A room that took 30 minutes now takes 5. A house that took an afternoon now takes 30 minutes.
(Video Analysis requires a Pro subscription. If you don’t have one, this is a great reason to try it.)
Multiple Homes
A lot of MovingBox users have more than one property to document: a vacation house, a rental unit, a storage unit they can never remember what’s in.
Until now, MovingBox only handled one home. That was a deliberate early decision: build the core right before expanding it. I think we’re there.
In 2026.1.0, you can add as many homes as you need. Labels are shared, but each home gets its own rooms and insurance policy info. Switch between them from the sidebar. Use All Inventory to search across everything at once.
Household Collaboration
The single-most-requested feature since launch.
You can now invite a family member or roommate to edit your inventory alongside you. They get full access across all your homes. No separate account, no complicated setup. Just send an invite.
This is built for couples documenting a shared home together, or adult children helping aging parents get their inventory in order before they need to.
What Else Changed
A few smaller things worth mentioning:
- Faster saves — batch database writes reduce the lag you sometimes saw after AI analysis on large inventories
- iPad landscape camera — the preview and capture orientation is finally fixed for landscape use
- Macro lens support — for getting close-up shots of serial numbers and small items on supported iPhone models
- Better thumbnails — improved loading across large inventories
- Diagnostics tools — if you ever need to contact support, there are new tools to help troubleshoot
Plus the usual stability improvements and sync reliability fixes.
What’s Next
I have a backlog that keeps growing faster than I can ship it! Next up: custom inventory fields, better search filtering, and a few things I’m not ready to talk about yet.
If there’s a feature you’ve been waiting for, email me. I read every message!
